During March we will be exploring Fairy Tales. The loft has been transformed into a castle. The Bears will learn about dragons within different cultures and literature. The children will be creating leprechaun traps in hopes that we will catch him. We have all sorts of materials for children to design and build a large trap for each classroom. There will be magic and fun on St. Patrick’s Day!

All teachers are extraordinarily committed to providing the best childhood practices for Shepherd of the Valley Preschool children, families and our community. We will be attending the New Mexico Association for the Education of Young Children on Friday and Saturday. The Friday sessions are outdoor experiences and learning throughout the city. The Saturday conference will have sessions in all areas of early childhood education throughout the day. Teachers are taking different sessions and on Monday we will share together what we have learned and how we can incorporate our new knowledge into our curriculum and program. Professional Development builds the foundation for well-trained and qualified staff and keeps our school current in best practices.

We had a staff Professional Development training on February 13, How Do We Value Diversity, Celebrate Culture, Teach Social Justice in Early Childhood Education? We discussed the work of Dr. Jeff Duncan Andrade . We had a follow up Continuous Quality Improvement meeting on February 26th to review our own practices. We identified the cultures currently represented in our preschool and how we can best support these children and families. We also discussed how Shepherd of the Valley Preschool provides a foundation for all children to value diversity and respect differences. An action plan was developed to examine our curriculum, follow an Instagram Account, The Conscious Kid (Parenting and Education through a Critical Race Lens/Diverse Books) and expand our collection of books. We ordered several books including, Eyes that Kiss in the Corners, Bee-Bim Bop! Dear Juno, Jabari Jumps and We are Water Protectors.

The book order will be due on Thursday, March 11th. Order online with the code Q9M77. Remember that you can have your book order sent directly to your house. This is a good idea since we may be on break when the books arrive.

We are grateful to be a part of this community of wonderful, caring parents and creative, amazing children!
