2021.08.25 Newsletter

Dear Families,

We are excited to begin our new year at Shepherd of the Valley Preschool!  It was wonderful to meet with our families during our Meet and Greets!  Our returning children look a bit older and we are delighted to have our new students join our preschool family.

Our goal is to have all students see their families reflected in our school.  The children will soon be painting frames to put their family photos on the walls inside of our loft.  Children’s art will transform our environment to make it uniquely theirs.  We want every child and family to feel that they belong here!   Those who work in the field of early childhood education know the positive impact of partnering with families and we look forward to developing a special relationship with each of you. Always feel free to ask us any questions as you adjust to preschool life.

To make your child’s learning meaningful and fun we integrate our learning experiences.  Our curriculum is organized around learning centers and thematic units. Our program is designed to integrate language, math, literature, science, music and art in meaningful ways in order for children to discover new concepts about their world.  The foundation of our program is the trusting and caring relationships that children and teachers form.  We will begin our year with the theme Getting to Know our School and Each Other.  We have planned activities, songs and art to help children develop relationships with their teachers and peers and feel comfortable and secure with preschool life.

Much thought and care has been put into creating our outdoor classroom.   You will get to see our set up when you arrive on Monday!

Preschool is a MESSY and ACTIVE place. TENNIS SHOES and clothes that your child will feel free to explore, move and get dirty in are the UNIFORM at Shepherd of the Valley Preschool! We may add water to our play at any time.  TENNIS SHOES must always be worn to school so that your child is able to run and climb safely.  Teachers will not permit your child on the play structures if we feel that your child’s shoes are not appropriate.  A LABELED CHANGE OF CLOTHES MUST ALWAYS BE IN YOUR CHILD’S CUBBIE.

On Monday bring your child to the Arrival area.  Laurie and Holly will quickly take your child’s temperature and ask you Screening Questions. We will direct you to take your kiddo to our Good-Bye Spot.  One of our amazing teachers will guide your child into preschool to wash hands and be ready for a preschool adventure.

When it is time to go home, pick up your child’s lunchbox and treasures out of the bin.  Each child has a bin with his/her picture on it.  Line up, socially distanced to pick up your little one.

If your child is staying for extended care and we are not outside, when you come to pick up your child, please call 344-1989.  We will get your child ready and outside as quickly as we can.

During Arrival and Pick all adults must wear masks.

We have created a social story about our drop off and pick up routine. Please look at it together with your child so everyone can feel prepared for our first day of school together.

Please remember to send your child to school with:
