Dear Parents,

We are happy to provide you with our Valentine Kit. We wanted to get this box to you so you will have time to work on this special project on multiple days.  We believe the experience of making individual Valentine’s for each preschool child will be a wonderful lesson in kindness.  Please take your time and cherish this activity with your child.  We have attached the PDF of Who Do You See book that has pictures of all the children and teachers.

There are many books on kindness that we will be reading and talking about at preschool.  Here are two books you may want to read together with your child as you begin your Valentine project.  I Like Your Buttons by Sarah Marwil Lamstein shows children different ways of complimenting and how a simple compliment can start a chain reaction of goodwill, good deeds, and thoughtfulness.  Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch by Eileen Spinelli is a favorite of our preschool for over 20 years.  A postman delivers a mysterious package to a lonely man.  It shows how one act of kindness can have a powerful effect.  You can always “read” these books on YouTube.

We would love to encourage you to allow for extra time to let your children get their own winter clothes on themselves. It is a super important fine and gross motor skill to push those little arms into the coat and fingers into the gloves/mittens. We are looking for children to become quite independent with this skill, aside from needing assistance starting zippers or snapping snaps. Independence promotes confidence and self-esteem as well as motivation and perseverance.  Practice at home will set them up for success here at school. We have attached some resources below:

Our preschool has often had community outreach projects to help those less fortunate.  We are sad that COVID has limited our ability to organize some of these important projects.  We are delighted to partner with our church Project Shine committee.  This group has faithfully supported our local elementary school, La Luz, in many ways.  There are many families in need at this school.  La Luz would love to have Valentine treats for their students and that is where you can help make this happen.  They would like Valentine cookies individually bagged for each child.  Having your child help others by making and giving cookies to other children in need is a wonderful lesson in kindness.  If you would like to be a part of this wonderful project please sign up at our Arrival Table.  We will provide 24 Ziplock’s per family and a cookie recipe.   (You do not need to use the recipe we give you.).

The cookies are due back at Arrival on Thursday, February 10th.  The Project Shine Committee will deliver them to La Luz that morning.

We do understand the crazy irony that you may provide handmade goodies to others, but we cannot allow them at our preschool, currently, due to regulations.  Thank you for your understanding!

We will have a Sharpie at our Arrival Table if you need to label your child’s mask or belongings.

There is no school on February 21 for President’s Day.

We are grateful for our Preschool Family!
